What is there to say about the first few years of Artemisia Rokowski's life? She was born, like many kids, to two parents. She did baby things, then toddler things, then child things, nothing of which was exceptional. She was known to be very preocicious as a young child, which had been a nicer way of admitting that she had been quite the handful. Like many kids who had a lot of energy and few boundaries, Artemisia was turned toward the arts and performing, and that's when things really started to get interesting. It turned out that she had a flair for the dramatic, but even if she had not, it wouldn't have stopped her parents from continuing to enroll her in acting and other community activities. Neither Penelope nor Wallace Rokowski were particularly invested in being what one might descirbe as "hands on" parents. They saw to it that their two children wanted for nothing, but part of that unspoken covenant between elder and younger Rokowskis was that they stayed as much out of their parents' hair as was feasible. Artemisia didn't mind. Well, no -- of course she did, but she was always a lively girl and able to make quick, if shallow friendships easily. Her acting classes became an outlet for the young girl, and a source of human connection. It wasn't long before she was sure that she wanted to become a professional actress. Seeing as the Rokowskis lived in Los Angeles and had a friend of a friend who worked in casting, it was relatively easy for Artemisia to pursue that goal once she had persuaded her parents that it was worthwhile.

Artemisia's earliest roles mostly were in voice acting and allowed for her to continue her education without much fuss. At fifteen, however, she landed her first live action television role as the younger sister of one of the main characters on The OC. It was not a particularly bad experience, but that was around the time that Artemisia's interests began shifting to music. She had written a few songs and recorded them to put on Myspace (still popular at the time), all in all an amateurish undertaking that was just to take a tentative dip into something new. Artemisia had taken singing lessons, even opera lessons, as a child, but at the time thought of the skill as resume padding. However, her fledgling musical career was born through Myspace after she attracted the attention of several record labels. Although the experience with the labels seemed positive at first and she was hopeful, Artemisia quickly grew bitter as the label she had signed with tried to become more controlling, dicked her around on release dates, put her through media training, and eventually slashed her budget when she did not prove to be the earner they had thought she would be. The eventual pressure of the studio and her personal life led to her taking a temporary hiatus from acting to focus on her music career and learning how to assert herself to her label.

Although her first ep, As If was maybe the closest she had been to what they wanted from her, it was still very much in the vein of her own personality and weirdness -- perhaps a bit of a try-hard effort, because she was a teenager. But by the time she released Ghost, the next EP, and her full length album, Night Time, My Time, Artemisia managed to successfully distance herself from the cute teen she had been known as and the pop princess Capitol tried to mold her into. Maybe it was the hard partying reputation she had acquired, culminating in arrests in 2012 and 2013 for drug possession, or maybe it was the topless cover of her debut album, who could say. Artemisia's goal was to run her career on her terms and in that regard, she had become successful -- and anyone who underestimated her was surprised to find her tough, opinionated, but socially conscientious despite a lack of formal education past the age of sixteen. Of course what that translated into was a reputation for being difficult.

Music had become Artemisia's foremost concern, but acting was her first love. She hadn't even been able to quit it cold turkey, filming Mad Max: Fury Road in 2012 while she was beginning her technical hiatus. After touring throughout 2013 and 2014, she returned to the silver screen with small roles in The Witch, Jem and the Holograms, and a small stint on American Horror Story in 2015. Since then, Artemisia has been working steadily as an actress, but also making time to still perform shows here and there. Though she's been working on her sophomore album, tentatively titled Masochism, for actual years now (more or less since Night Time, My Time was released), Artemisia has no intention of releasing it until she's comfortable doing so. Whenever that is will be whenever the hell it is.
